Tackling period poverty

Updated: Nov 27, 2023

Sarah Boateng has been distributing reusable period pads made by bamboo fleece to girls and young women in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region of Ghana for over a year.

The initiative is part of her wider goal to deliver quality education to girls in rural parts of Africa under her charity Investing in Girls Education in Africa (IGEA) Enterprise.

Sarah talks to us about this enterprise, the alternative solution she is providing to girls and young women in the area, who would otherwise drop out of school and what inspired her mission. Click the image to find out more.

The music in this segment comes from The GoldenStool Project which aims to provide a forum for the encouragement, promotion and development of Ghanaian arts and culture.
