The annual catwalk and exhibition event is one of the world’s largest and longest-running showcases of African and African-inspired fashion & design.

In partnership with the British Council, the two-day AFWL event will welcome 10 emerging designers from Ghana, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, and Nigeria through its the Creative DNA programme.

Catwalk showcases

On Saturday 9 August, visitors can expect three catwalk showcases filled with the best of African design collections and a full exhibition hall, where visitors can shop, browse, discover new trends and update their summer wardrobes.

In a first-of-its-kind collaboration, Disney Theatrical Group will partner with AFWL to open the Saturday catwalk show at 7pm, featuring a special performance by the cast of Disney’s The Lion King. This unique fusion of theatrical artistry and fashion underscores the shared themes of heritage, identity, and African storytelling.

AI in design

On Sunday 10 August, visitors will also see new fabric collections from the Adire Oodua Textile Hub, watch an incredible heritage catwalk show and join industry panel talks on topics such as AI in design, direct-to-consumer strategies, sustainability, and redefining the ‘Made in Africa’ narrative.

AFWL has also partnered with Meta in a move that signals the growing intersection between fashion, technology, and digital innovation across Africa and its diaspora.

And finally, partnerships with major UK universities, Manchester Metropolitan University and Winchester School of Art will demonstrate our growing influence in championing African textile and design in undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses. Expect their student collections on the catwalk and also the graduate stars from the recent Graduate Fashion Week.

Queen Ronke Ademiluyi-Ogunwusi, founder of AFWL, created the event in 2011. She is also the founder of Africa Fashion Week Nigeria, the Adire Oodua Textile Hub in Nigeria and co-founder of Africa Fashion Week Brazil.

Queen Ronke said: "This 15th edition is more than a celebration; it's a bold statement about the future of African fashion. We’re proud to bring the world’s attention to the talent, stories, and innovation coming from the continent and its diaspora."
