In February, we published our two-part interview with author Elvin James Mensah.
His debut book ‘Small Joys’ centres around two characters: Harley Sekyre and Muddy Barlow.
Listen to part 1
Harley is depressed and struggles with a lot including a difficult relationship with his dad since coming out as gay. When we meet him he’s about to ‘end it all’ in a wooded area.
Muddy, a bird watcher (twitcher), is also there but for different reasons - he’s looking to collect sightings of rare birds.
‘Small Joys’ is one of the most emotionally powerful books I’ve read in 2024, particularly seeing the pair’s friendship evolve.
Before I met Elvin, a majestic eagle owl rested in my garden for the whole morning - I took it as a sign that it was to be a good interview!
Listen to part 2
We also marked the official launch of the Cultural Games Association UK in London.
And remembered the Africans that fled the Russia-Ukraine conflict in 2022 - two years on.
And we celebrated International Mother Language Day on 21 February, with this clip from countryside campaigner Maxwell Ayamba CBE.
Check out our podcast interview with him too.
Meanwhile, in Ghana the spectre of galamsey continued to hit the headlines.
