Entrepreneur, business coach and founder of Foundervine Izzy Obeng is one of a number of British Ghanaians to receive MBEs in the 2025 New Year’s Honours List.
She has been honoured for services to UK digital growth and entrepreneurs from underrepresented backgrounds.
Kevin Osei, the multi-award-winning ceo and founder of charitable organisation Bridging Barriers, received an MBE for his services to young people in London.
He established Bridging Barriers in October 2020, with the aim of levelling the playing field for young individuals aged 16-25 from ethnically diverse and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Through Bridging Barriers, young people have access to role models that can help them to acquire the necessary hard and soft skills, confidence and resilience, and robust networks needed to gain employment.
Kevin aims to help 1 million young people along this journey and speaks from experience.
When he started out on the career ladder, he remembers how mentorship helped to transform his CV and interview skills, and eventually led him to securing a position at KPMG, one of the leading global financial services companies.
Speaking on receiving his latest award, he told AKADi Magazine: "I’ve never done the work I do for rewards or recognition, but when a commitment to transforming the lives of young people in your community is acknowledged, it really is a great feeling and a huge blessing."

Dr Nana Siaw-Badu, founder and ceo of Badu Sports, was honoured for his services to sport and physical activity in London.
And Matilda Asante-Owusu was awarded an MBE for services to nursing. Matilda is a sickle cell community matron in the Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Centre, Whittington Health NHS Trust.
Matilda has previously contributed to a paper looking at the impact that iron overload has on high incidence of of osteopenia and osteoporosis for adults with severe sickle cell anaemia. Read more about her work here.
